Google URL Shortener goo.gl is shutting down

Google URL shortening service will be shutting down starting from April 2018. The announcement was made in a blog post by Google. This is a sad news as goo.gl is one of the most popular and used url shortener on the internet, However Google called it "Transitioning Google URL Shortener to Firebase Dynamic Links" which the lay man will find it hard to use.

Google will be shutting down goo.gl url shortener come April 2018, but on April 13, users who uses goo.gl as a guest or anonymously will no longer be able to short links. While users who shorten links from their Google account will continue to do so until one year from today — March 30, 2019.

For those who already have a shortened links, the links will continue to work. Developer projects that haven't used goo.gl before today will be unable to create short links with the service starting May 30 this year 2018 — those that have can keep using goo.gl up until that same March 30, 2019.

Wanted to shorten a link so I logged into my goo.gl account only to see this notification

Starting March 30, 2018, we will be turning down support for goo.gl URL shortener. From April 13, 2018 only existing users will be able to create short links on the goo.gl console. You will be able to view your analytics data and download your short link information in csv format for up to one year, until March 30, 2019, when we will discontinue goo.gl. Previously created links will continue to redirect to their intended destination. Please see this blog post for more details.

Google says it's winding down support for goo.gl in favor of Firebase Dynamic Links, single links that can lead to different destinations depending on the type of device they're accessed from. But Firebase Dynamic Links aren't a replacement to goo.gl short links; they're not something non-developers will have use for.

What Other URL Shortening Service Should I Use?
Google recommends alternative URL shortening services like Bitly.com and Ow.ly as more direct alternatives to goo.gl.
